The article is written by Dr. Jameel Ahmad from the department of pharmacology in Aligarh India.  The editorial focuses on the problems associated with the subcutaneous and intramuscular routes of administering since they are significant for health practitioners involved in prescribing medications.  According to Ahmad, the correct site selection for the intramuscular injection is significant since it depends on the volume of the drug, age of the patient and the form of medication used.  When using intramuscular injection method, the muscle mass has to be effective to support the quantity of drug used.   However, wrong site identification can cause damage to blood vessels or nerves.  

Furthermore, correct site selection for intramuscular injection ensures that there is safe drug administration. The safe injection does not harm the patient, and healthcare practitioners are not exposed to risk.  Moreover, there is a reduced waste for the available injections which might be dangerous to the society. The article was written by Jin et.al in 2015 and illustrates the importance of subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous administration of drugs.  The editorial is a report after the analyses of literature from various nursing journals to depict the disadvantages and advantages of various drug injection methods and correct site identification.  Based on the finding, intramuscular drug administration is the method used to deliver drug deep into the tissues permitting the medication to dissolve in the bloodstream easily.  Most of the drugs injected using the intramuscular method require to be absorbed quickly into the blood so that to boost the health of an individual thus correct injection site ensures that the action is successful. 

Incorrect site administration of the drug via the intramuscular method results to pain and infections since the amount of drug injected will not function properly. Moreover, the injection sites can become a wound since the pressure of the drug can damage the surrounding tissues.  Besides, correct recognition of injection site ensures that the drug administration can frequently be done without complaints from the patient.   Likewise, correct site selection illustrates professionalism and reduces the risk of avoidable deaths.  Although some medicines can be injected via two or more routes, some are only administered in one area to ensure that their action is attained to the fullest.   Furthermore, personalize therapeutics that entails right site selection improves the patient-specific results. The editorial was written by Kilic et.al to compare the use of intramuscular injections to ventrogluteal and dorsogluteal areas.    The intramuscular administration of the drug is utilized to deliver medication to massive muscles since they are supplied with several veins when compared to subcutaneous veins. However, the administration of medicines through intramuscular method require correct identification of the right site to several health risks and damage to the anatomical structure.  The use of intramuscular injections to the dorsogluteal is not recommended since it is near to the nerves and blood vessels which can cause brain damage.  Based on the article, the use of hypodermic needle having drug or any other biological to the wrong site particularly may lead to serious harm such as intellect damage.

Wrong site selection of intramuscular injections particularly in children leads to nerve damage.  The article states that dorsogluteal muscle is connected with the elevated risk of sciatic injury thus should be used mostly for outpatient.  The use of intramuscular in dorsogluteal muscle instead of ventrogluteal tissues results in complications can be life threatening as well as aggravating the pain.  Correct site selection ensures that the right needle is used to administer the prescribed medicine.  Furthermore, patients who are treated by accurately determining the injection site heal faster than those that are injected in wrong sites.  Determining the best place to inject the patients depends on the amount of drug and the goals of the remedy.
